Dieting: how far would you go?

Interesting article in the Daily Mail (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1210073/Dodgy-pills-web-High-risk-surgery–Why-bright-successful-women-risk-lives-drop-dress-size.html) which talks about the extreme lengths women will go to, to shift those pounds.

The multi million pound diet industry is full of fad and fantasy which promises the earth and yet consistently fails to deliver. The result?  Frustration, misery, anger. Rationale goes out the window. Desperation drives these people to seek ‘salvation’ in something else, something different, that’s often risky and sometimes even fatal.

If you listen to the diet industry you’re likely to end up poorer and fatter than before. Eating less and moving more is the only ‘diet’ regime proven to work and be safe. If you burn more calories than you consume you can lose weight but that’s a world away from some diets promoted by the industry. Dieting is not about a quick fix but about making changes in the way you eat (with everyday foods not special meal plans) and move your body forever.

Whilst there may be an appropriate place for the use of pills such as Reductil (e.g. in the early stages of weight loss for chronic obese subjects) the truth is that for the majority, taking this pill is far from the answer.

Forget instant satisfaction when it comes to realistic weight loss. It’s not going to happen!

You need to be able to know your body so you can effectively take control. An understanding of how many calories you burn and how many calories you consume is the key to safe and effective weight loss.
